What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is one of the most modern and fastest methods of hair removal. At Ella Clinics, we use the GentleMax Pro laser, featuring Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths, making it safe and effective for treating all skin types, from fair to deep. The laser targets the pigment in hair follicles with concentrated light. Short pulses of laser light are absorbed by the pigment, heating and damaging the hair follicle, preventing new hair growth. This process ensures that only pigmented hairs can be permanently removed. The GentleMax Pro provides long-lasting results with minimal discomfort, suitable for various body areas, ensuring a customized and efficient hair removal experience.

The Treatment

Before starting the treatment, the area to be treated is marked and, if necessary, shaved. Laser hair removal is not entirely painless, as destroying the hair follicle can be sensitive. To minimize discomfort, the laser device has a cooling system that cools the skin simultaneously. The duration of a laser hair removal session depends on the size of the area being treated, ranging from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

After the Treatment

Immediately after the laser treatment, the skin may appear red, and swelling might occur around the hair follicles, which is a normal reaction. A cooling gel is applied to soothe the skin and reduce any discomfort. Over the next few days, the treated area may feel slightly sensitive.

You should avoid sun exposure and use gentle skincare products to prevent irritation. After the first session, you will notice that the hair grows back finer and less densely. With each subsequent treatment, hair growth will continue to diminish, leading to smoother, hair-free skin over time.

Number of Treatments Required

There are three hair growth phases. Effective laser treatment requires hair to be in the active Anagen phase, where the hair shaft is connected to the follicle and can be effectively destroyed. Since each hair is in a different phase, achieving desired results after one treatment isn't possible.

Typically, 6-8 body treatments and 10-12 face treatments are needed to treat all active-phase hairs. After the first session, patchy regrowth may occur due to varied hair phases. Facial hair growth is hormonally stimulated, complicating treatment compared to body hair. Treatment frequency is every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the treated area.

Home Care Advice and Aftercare

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds throughout the entire treatment process. Always protect your skin with a good sunscreen of at least SPF 30.
  • For 48 hours after the treatment, avoid intense exercise, saunas, or hot showers to allow your body to release heat properly.
  • Do not use hair removal methods that remove the hair root, such as waxing, plucking, or epilation. You may only shave, trim, or use hair removal cream.
  • For two weeks after laser treatment, avoid any other procedures on the treated area, such as facials or scrubs.
