What is Tattoo Removal?

A tattoo is a lasting design created by inserting ink particles into the dermis, the skin's deep layer. Since these ink particles are generally too large for the body to break down on its own, the removal process involves using specialized techniques to fragment the ink into smaller, manageable pieces. These smaller fragments are then gradually absorbed and eliminated by the body's natural processes.

The Treatment

The tattoo removal process begins by breaking down large ink particles in the skin into smaller fragments. These smaller particles are then more easily absorbed and eliminated by the body's natural processes. As the ink fragments are gradually removed, the tattoo begins to fade over time.

This method involves multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, with effectiveness influenced by factors such as ink colors, depth, and skin type. Modern tattoo removal techniques are designed to be highly effective, providing significant reduction or complete removal of unwanted tattoos.

After the Treatment

Following a tattoo removal session, the treated area may appear red and swollen, similar to a mild sunburn. You might also notice some scabbing or crusting as the skin heals. It’s crucial to keep the area clean and avoid picking at any scabs to prevent scarring. Applying a recommended ointment and keeping the skin moisturised can aid in the healing process.

Over time, as the skin heals and the ink particles are naturally eliminated, the tattoo will gradually fade. The number of sessions needed varies depending on factors like the tattoo's size, color, and depth, as well as individual skin characteristics. Following aftercare instructions and attending all recommended sessions will help achieve the best results.

Number of Treatments Required

The tattoo removal process varies for each person, and so does the number of treatments needed. During our free consultation, we evaluate visible factors to estimate the number of sessions required for your specific tattoo. Each tattoo is unique, and some influencing factors may not be visible to the naked eye. Generally, achieving optimal results involves 5 to 10 sessions, spaced 7 to 8 weeks apart. Keep in mind that results can vary for each individual.

Home Care Advice and Aftercare

  • Gently cleanse the treated area with mild soap and water. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh exfoliants.
  • Use a recommended healing ointment or moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and aid in the healing process.
  • Do not pick or scratch at scabs or crusts to prevent scarring and infection.
  • Keep the treated area out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 if exposure is unavoidable.
  • Refrain from intense exercise, swimming, or soaking in hot tubs for the first 48 hours post-treatment to avoid irritation and excessive sweating.
  • Opt for loose clothing over the treated area to prevent friction and irritation.
